find the work YOU LOVE!

You are what you do!

Society says “you are what you do“. “What do you do?” is generally the second thing that most people ask — right after “what is your name?” Our whole identity is wrapped up in what we do. Whether your profession is teacher, lawyer, actor, doorman at Trump Tower, or any other profession, we need to maintain balance in our lives.

Traditional Work Model
In the CareerFinder Quickstart Ready Module - a new on-demand DIY web class which we’ve created for those looking to change careers - we talk about the “traditional work model”. This model - shown on the right - shows WORK as the center of our lives, and everything else becomes secondary. Life is generally lived out of balance, and when work gets yanked out from under us - and it will, our whole world crashes.

Shifted Work Model
The truth is that we spend about 85% of our waking hours doing work-related activities. Whether it is getting dressed, commuting, or actually working, our lives are focused on work. When we are truly doing a career we love, the lines between “work” and “play” begin to blur. We begin to move into the “shifted work model”, and our lives reach a healthy and happy balance.
