Resume Formatting Tip - The Headliner

Here’s a resume formatting tip designed to help you make a strong impact. It’s not the most ideal solution for every resume, but it’s pretty handy when you want to emphasize a certain stand-out feature about yourself, highlight your personal brand or show multiple functional titles or areas you’re going after. I call it the headliner format. Some experts call it the title format.
The headline:
- Appears at the very top of the resume (like a news headline or a flyer title).
- Succinctly creates a strong first impression.
- Focuses the reader’s attention on what you want them to know about you.
- States your industry, field of interest and/or job title.
- Might highlight 1 or 2 qualities that make you stand out (your brand).
Here’s what it looks like…
How to make your headline stand out…
Instead of Technology Professional, you can say something specific like this:
Programmer with Java Experience
or
Apple Technical Support Specialist
You can use multiple positions in your headline like this:
Project Manager/Production Manager/Business Manager
You can use a branding statement like this:
Going Above & Beyond to Deliver Extraordinary Results
