Jobs Which Are Hiring At The Fastest Rate
by Jay Markunas, Career Consultant
Yahoo HotJobs just posted an interesting article on which jobs are hiring now. Monster’s Employment Index that tracks online job demand shows the fastest hiring segments over the last 13 months (July 2009 to August 2010) are Legal and Business/Finance.
Legal careers are up 29%. These are not only Lawyer jobs, but the support staff as well. Paralegals and Court Reporters showed significant hiring. Both of which pay in the mid to upper $40′s.
Financial careers are up 28%. These are Financial Managers, Accountants, and Loan Officers — just to name a few. According to NACE {National Association of College and Employers}, accounting services employers extended the most offers to 2010 college graduates.
Rounding out the top 3 are Web Designers, Graphics Designers, and Public Relations Specialists which Hot Jobs calls Arts, Design, Entertainment, Sports and Media Careers. These jobs have seen an increase in hiring by 25%, and has an average salary in the $40′s. Why PR Specialists? The article states: “A surge in social networking sites is creating a new need for savvy PR professionals who are able to control and get a client’s message out. According to the Department of Labor, opportunities for PR specialists are expected to grow 24 percent through 2018.”
Architecture and Health Care were called out in the article as hiring increases well over 20% in the last 13 months. So the news is pretty good. The economic situation is getting brighter as well. Many of the local job clubs are seeing a decrease in meeting attendance. This is a good sign for job seekers - albeit unofficially linked to job growth, but group leaders (like myself) see this as bittersweet. VERY Glad to see people getting back to work, and of course sad to see less people attending meetings. BUT, I’ll take more people working and less attendees anytime. If you are in a job club, please consider attending a meeting or two to let the group know about your successful search.
