Interviewing Tips: The Johari Window

By Angela Loëb

Career design colleagues in the UK talk about “The Johari Window” and how to use it for preparing for interviews.

Greg and Tom of e2aplus say that you have “Blindspots” that can come out during an interview. These could be things such as unconsious body movements, “ums & ers,” repeating words, etc.

They also discuss “Masks.” Apparently, this is what someone is keeping hidden during the interview. For example, are you expending a lot of energy worrying about the interivew? This can come across and it can be “noosing” you, as Greg and Tom describe it.

They advise being aware of the Johari Window aspects in yourself. Being self observant can help you see your blindspots and can help you figure out how to be open and honest without “noosing” yourself.
