When I work with clients who have just lost their job, I always recommend they take a week off to decompress. It might even be a good idea to get out of town. Don’t look for a job. Don’t update your resume. It will be impossible to forget about the job situation, but stepping away from job search will help.
Last week on The Job Search Boot Camp Show, we were fortunate enough to have Regina Moser joining us. Regina is a innovative Job Search & Life Strategies Coach and Trainer as well as a Yoga Instructor.
Job Search is in the list of the top 5 major events that cause stress.
Regina says there are a number of techniques that you can use during job search to reduce stress. Having a daily or weekly plan can ease the stress. Not having a plan tends to make us feel like we could have been doing more in our job search. However, a good plan which allows time for recreation (and a lunch break) can make our search time more productive and less stressful.
But Wait…There’s More!
Regina spoke about a number of other techniques to deal with stress and ways to keep a positive attitude. You may want to listen to the replay at http://www.BlogTalkRadio.com/JobSearchBootCamp. The replay is also available in Podcast version on iTunes!

Many job seekers can’t focus on their passions. They are about to be thrown out of their home or apartment. They are about to lose the car. They are about to have the electricity cutoff.

Like many places, Vegas is feeling the pinch of the recession. Arriving at the hotel, it was noticeable the 20 or so lanes to check-in no longer had workers to handle the crowds. They had only a few lines open, and a longer wait check-in at the hotel. Overhearing someone waiting in line, the hotel chain had laid off 1,200 employees recently. Just strolling through the casino seeing many of the tables closed on a Saturday night confirmed that times were tough all over. Hotels and casinos have also been laying off. This emphasizes that you need a good strategy for finding a new job when job loss occurs.
